Assemblymember Lisa Calderon Responds to Governor Newsom’s Final State of the State Address

For immediate release:

(SACRAMENTO, CA) - Assemblymember Lisa Calderon (D-Whittier) released the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s State of the State Address:

“Governor Newsom’s final State of the State underscored the strength and resilience of Californians. During the last seven years, we have survived the challenges of a global pandemic, the deadliest wildfires in the state’s history, severe economic disruptions, and unpredictable federal policies that continue to threaten the health and safety of all Californians.

Families across our state are feeling the pressure of rising costs, from housing, to health care, education and insurance premiums, everyday necessities feel out of reach. There are many factors driving these increased costs and it is our responsibility to work together on practical solutions that deliver real relief and ensure our most vulnerable resident are not overlooked.

At the same time, we must continue to stand firm against the unconstitutional, violent, bullying tactics and policies from the federal government that seek to undermine our shared values and the dignity of our communities. We are stronger together. I look forward to working with all of my colleagues, regardless of party, and the Governor to ensure all Californians have the opportunity to prosper and thrive in this great state.”
